The "Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Russian North" program has concluded at the University of Ghana!

At the final event, program participants presented their research on the indigenous peoples of the Russian North. The attendees spoke about their way of life, traditional dwellings, national cuisine, clothing, and language, demonstrating how the harsh natural environment has shaped the unique culture of these peoples.

Particular interest was sparked by parallels with Ghana’s northern regions: students compared the lifestyles of the Wala, Dagomba, and Konkomba peoples with the traditions of Russia’s taiga and tundra inhabitants. They discussed economic practices, family values, and material culture — and found many commonalities despite the geographical distance.

The program once again proved that linguistic and cultural studies are not just about language, but about a living dialogue of cultures that brings countries closer together and reveals Russia from a new, unexpected perspective

The project is implemented by the My History Foundation for the Support of Humanities, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
