

The Aburi Botanical Garden is located in the southern part of Ghana, not far from Accra. It was opened in March 1890. The garden covers an area of 64.8 hectares.
This garden hosts one of the largest collections of tropical plants from Africa and other continents. Here you can find about 650 species of plants. The Aburi Garden is home to a kapok tree that is about 160 years old. This place is also home to many birds and butterflies.
In the garden, you can see a helicopter. It was presented by Queen Elizabeth II to Ghana in 1961. In 1974, it became a landmark of the garden.
In the past, the garden was important for the production of cocoa and rubber in southern Ghana. Now its main task is the conservation of the country’s plants and animals.
