Black Star Square, or Independence Square, is the main square of Ghana’s capital. It was built in 1961. It is located in the center of Accra. Everyone calls it Black Star Square because there is a tall white arch with a black star at the top. The height of the arch is 30 meters. The black star is a symbol of Ghana’s freedom and independence.
On this square, the residents of Ghana hold many events. In the past, on March 6th, the country’s independence parade was held here. The square has stands. Up to 30,000 people can sit in the stands. Throughout the year, concerts and national festivals are also held here.
Black Star Square is not just a beautiful place but a true symbol of independence.
