VOLCANOES OF KAMCHATKA

The Kamchatka Peninsula is a region in the east of Russia. There are many volcanoes here. There are more than 300 of them. Today there are both dormant and active volcanoes here. Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest active volcano in Eurasia. Its height is 4,750 meters. Once every 5-6 years, you can see lava on it.

The volcanoes of Kamchatka are very beautiful. Some resemble cones. Near the volcanoes, unusual forests grow where brown bears live.

The nature here is very rich. On the territory of the volcanoes, there are glaciers, lava fields, a «dead» forest and alpine meadows, lakes and rivers, canyons, and waterfalls. Here is the famous Valley of Geysers – the only place in Eurasia where you can see hot fountains coming out from underground.

Kamchatka is an important place for science. Scientists study volcanoes and earthquakes here. Today, Kamchatka is a popular place for photographers and tourists. They come here to hike.
