The Kong Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in West Africa. It is located in the city of Kong. It was built from clay, wood, and straw in the 17th century, but no one knows exactly which year. In the past, this mosque was a symbol of the city’s wealth, and today it is a historical monument.
People come here to pray. Men pray on the eastern side, women on the western side. The mosque’s floor is covered with fine sand and carpets. It is cool inside.
The Kong Mosque is a reminder of the great past of the city of Kong, when it was an important trading center on the caravan routes across the Sahara.
