In the center of Ghana’s capital, there is Osu Castle. The castle stands on the ocean shore. It was built by the Danes in 1657 for trade and defense. Through Osu Castle, people traded gold, ivory, and slaves.
Here you can see white walls with towers and ancient cannons. Inside, there are halls in the European style and terrifying underground prisons where slaves lived. From Osu Castle, slaves were sent to America.
In 1960, the castle became the home of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah. Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain visited the castle in 1961 to meet the President of Ghana. There is a her room.
Unfortunately, people cannot go inside, but the castle looks very beautiful from the outside! It’s best to come here in the morning when there are no tourists.
Not far from the castle, there is a shopping center, cafes, and a garden.
