Grand Opening! First Day of the "I Love Russia" Arts and Sciences Festival in Accra
Today, July 7, a large-scale event uniting science, culture, and creativity kicked off in the capital of Ghana. On the first day of the «I Love Russia» festival, Accra was filled with a special atmosphere—a blend of diverse ideas, vibrant art, and the participants’ genuine interest in Russian culture and heritage.
The first day’s program set a high tone for the entire festival: guests were treated to:
- a workshop on making ethnic-style accessories
- an exhibition area featuring photographs of Russia’s corners
- a video concert of Russian national dances
- a photo zone featuring traditional Russian costumes
- refreshments from various corners of Russia.
Our colleagues Valeriya Kravets, Alexander Kuptsov, Apollinaria Yureneva, Anna Nekrasova, and Danil Svyatokhotook the participants on a visual journey through the country’s vast expanses, creating unique jewelry and outfit details inspired by traditional motifs of Russia’s peoples. They presented a vibrant video program that revealed the richness of national traditions through dance. The audience enjoyed rousing choreographic performances by national Russian groups, reflecting the soul and flavor of our country’s various regions. The atmospheric space became a true corner of Russia in Accra—everyone could take a memorable photo in a vibrant ethnic outfit!
he Festival’s opening ceremony was attended by Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Ghana; Natalia Olegovna Muzhennikova, Advisor to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Ghana; Polina Sergeevna Kvitnykh, Director of the Russian House in Ghana; Josephine Dzahene-Quarshie, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; and Dr. Charles Didier Noah Bela, representative of the Department of European Languages. Mikhail Vadimovich Gruzdev, Rector of the Yaroslavl Pedagogical University, sent an online greeting to the Festivalparticipants. The opening program included presentations by YSPU teachers on the diversity of Russia’s territory and peoples; presentations by African students on various regions of Russia: the Republic of Tatarstan, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Republic of Karelia, Dagestan, and Kamchatka Krai as well as Russian songs and dances performed by Ghanaian students.
Participants were able to not only learn new things but also become part of a vibrant dialogue of cultures, which will continue on the following days—July 8 and 9. Stay tuned!
