Leading Russian scientists in the field of additional education for children have presented the key priorities for the development of the national system of additional education in the Russian Federation and the main areas of change in the sphere of additional education in the post-Soviet space:

The speakers presented the findings of domestic and international research in the post-Soviet space conducted by the Centre of General and Complementary Education named after A.A. Pinsky of the National Research University “Higher School of Economics”. This included an analysis of the impact of extracurricular activities: the participation of students in clubs and sections has been shown to have a positive effect on their academic performance, it also encourages the development of key skills such as cooperation and perseverance, while reducing the risk of destructive behaviour. Furthermore, it encourages the development of competitive skills and attributes, which contribute to the overall growth and advancement of students’ internal and external social status. The presentation also outlined the key features of the transformation of the Soviet system of extracurricular education into the system of additional education in Russia and in the systems of extracurricular additional education in the countries of the post-Soviet space.
The webinar participants were keen to gain insight into the current state and development of additional education in Russia. This included understanding the age groups covered by additional education programmes, the infrastructure of educational organisations implementing these programmes, including private organisations, the proportion of children involved in these organisations, opportunities for participation in competitions and contests, tools for building successive educational trajectories for children, and other features of Russia’s additional education system.
One of the topics covered in the webinar is the specific training and professional development requirements for personnel involved in the additional education of children in the Russian Federation. The webinar participants were presented with an overview of the human resources potential in this field, including the number of teachers, their level of education and qualifications. The webinar also showcased Russia’s unique experience in training teachers of additional education at the university, college and additional professional education organisation levels.
