On October 2nd, the grand opening of the Center for Open Education at the University of Ghana took place. Although Russian language classes had already begun a month earlier, the official launch of the cooperation was celebrated in the presence of distinguished guests: His Excellency Sergey Leonidovich Berdnikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Ghana; Consul Artur Radikovich Vakhitov; Press Attaché of the Embassy Alexander Nikolaevich Gromov; the University of Ghana’s First Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo; the Head of the Department of Modern Languages, Dr. Joanna; Ildikó Csajbok-Twerefu, a constant supporter of all our university’s initiatives; and other faculty members.
Russian Ambassador Sergey Leonidovich Berdnikov highlighted the importance and timeliness of establishing such a platform for fruitful humanitarian dialogue between Russia and Ghana as the Center for Open Education, which «not only teaches the language but also reveals the richness of the culture, in which African students are interested.» The First Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana emphasized that this event holds significant importance for the country’s economic advancement, as Russian education is in demand in key national economic sectors.

In a welcoming video address, the Rector of Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University (YSPU) and member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, M.V. Gruzdev, expressed hope for long-term educational cooperation.
Lecturers from Yaroslavl Pedagogical University, Alexander Kuptsov and Valeria Kravets, presented the mission of the Center for Open Education in the Russian language, its scientific, educational, organizational, methodological, outreach, and informational capabilities. The exchange of gifts deeply moved all those present: as a token of friendship, the OEC lecturers presented the university’s leadership with a symbol of Russian culture – matryoshka dolls –while African third- and fourth-year students already studying Russian soulfully performed «Katyusha» and the lively «Yagoda Malinka.»
