Two Russian cities, Vladimir and Suzdal, are known for their ancient white stone temples, which are over 800 years old. They are called white stone because they were built from white stone. The most famous among them are the Assumption Cathedral and the Demetrius Cathedral in Vladimir and the Nativity Cathedral in Suzdal.
The Assumption Cathedral is located on a hill in the city of Vladimir. It was built in just three years (1158–1160). It is a tall white stone cathedral with five domes. Inside the cathedral, you can see gold decorations. The Assumption Cathedral is associated with great princes such as Alexander Nevsky and Dmitry Donskoy.
Next to it stands the Demetrius Cathedral. It was built in 1194-1197. The walls of the cathedral are covered with stone carvings.
The Nativity Cathedral in Suzdal was built in 1225. It was built three times. Here you can look at icons and church items. This cathedral is famous for its «Golden Gates» – the southern and western doors.
